Sam Shad

Hi! My name is Sam Shad and I am passionate  about coaching educators to be the best they can be during a teaching interview. Just so you know a little bit about me, I’m a retired school principal with over thirty years of experience in education. My teaching journey has taken me from a beautiful Indigenous school, to private and public schools, to special education classes, and currently I’m a university practicum advisor and instructor.

I’ve spent years interviewing countless educators, and have developed a coaching method that will greatly increase your odds in landing the job. You’ve got the skills and the heart to teach, the only thing standing in the way is that interview. So that’s what I’m here to help you with. We’ll focus on your purpose, passion and plan, so you’ll be able to bring out your best for any interview.

I look forward to the opportunity to work with you to be confident and ready for your next teaching interview!

‘These private sessions helped me clear up all of my confusion on approaching interviews. Answer length, teacher vocabulary, using personal experiences all get integrated into Sam’s method of answering questions. And most importantly he’ll help bring out your core beliefs and philosophy and teach you how to weave them through all of your answers. So happy I signed up with this highly professional interview expert.’

‘The practice interview session was very helpful. It helped me reflect on my skills and guided me a lot. Your feedback was helpful since I failed in my first attempt and I did not know what to include in my answers. The key that you introduced to me was to share personal experiences.’

‘Everything you told me was helpful, I also found having your support and confidence in my teaching gave me more confidence during the interview.’

‘The importance of confidence!!!! You helped me be way more confident with the material and how to structure my answers.’

‘Please continue on with what you do…. I am so thankful for your kindness, support and guidance that helped lead me through the interviews to a full-time contract teaching position.’

After a simple conversation and a few probing questions, you were able to help me pinpoint what I value and believe as an educator and the things that drive me. You asked me to think about my past teaching experiences and why I chose to follow certain paths (i.e. relocating to a northern First Nations reservation to teach), then provided me with a framework to structure my responses around my passion, something that hadn’t even occurred to me before that first coaching conversation.’

After giving me a way of better structuring my responses, you were open to reading one of my answers and providing feedback. You were readily available for a phone call to discuss my responses, and to go over some valuable interview skills such as expressing confidence in myself, my abilities, and my experience.’

This was super helpful it was all through email, but you were also available to meet as well. For me seeing written information allows me to remember and process better!’

‘You always encouraged me that I was going to benefit a staff upon my return. Having been out for a bit, I wasn’t sure of that myself. Your notes did help me consider why I enjoy teaching and what passions I brought to the table.’

‘You sent me an email with how to format a good response. This was very helpful.’

I needed a lot of support with formulating right answers. I was not aware of how I can answer a question about my math and literacy program. You guided me with formulating/creating my answers and asked me to include responses/words that principals look for during 20 min interview time span.’

You told me to speak from the heart for each question. Make sure I showed my passion for each subjects (math, language). Talk about my heart for kids, passion for education and the core of what I believe makes me a great teacher. This is a powerful combination.” – This was really helpful’

Thank you again for all that you did to support me and help me to be successfully placed on the LTO list!’

The examples you added to the written information really helped me! I also think that you supporting me and telling me to think of “my best character traits” allowed me to zone in on those throughout the interview and end the interview in a great way!’
